Charles Richards
Highest score in a match: 112 v TCD
Best Bowling Figures: the best that anyone would believe would be my 1-0-12-2 ( 4 W 2 . 6 . W ) about two years ago for the 4th XI, I can’t remember the opposition but it was an eventful over
Best cricketing memory: After winning the 2nds League, Tom McDonnell, very late at night calling up the captains of the other teams in the league and drunkenly singing ‘ We are the Champions’ down the phone to them.
Worst cricketing memory: Putting Clontarf into bat in a cup match, they scored 385-5. Michael Scully did something similar recently.
Funniest Cricketing Moment: Colin Ryan under a skier at the Hills, described very well in other profiles. He is definitely the finest header of a cricket ball of his generation
Favourite Innings: Rob Kenealy’s knock against Carlisle, I had a 28 ball duck, totally over awed by facing Rodney Molins, Rob didn’t know who he was ,treated each ball on merit, hit him for several sixesand set us on the way to an improbable victory
Favourite International Cricketer: Viv Richards, Barry Richards, C.J. Richards
Best Teas in Ireland: Leinster, although Phoenix for a time had some very nervy tea ladies, who kept spilling stuff and bumping into each other which was very entertaining.
Favourite Ground: Cabra, I like it’s lack of pretension.
"The Inzamam Award for Temper Tantrums" goes to: Justin Cramp at Phoenix was a marvel of obstinancy, stopping play for a helicopter, that was miles away, probably doing an air sea rescue. Close run thing with Hughie Delaney, the slightest thing can set him off
Least favourite English cricketer(s): Andrew Caddick, what a hang dog mien – very depressing
Hopes for my career: n/a
A short summary of me as a player: I would like to think I am only a few grammes of articular cartilage and the odd shot of diamorphine away from avoiding embarrassment in the field and nurdling the occasional 50. I would like to win a cup. I haven’t won one since schooldays.
